Department Description
Orange County Utilities Department provides drinking water, wastewater treatment, reclaimed water, garbage collection, garbage disposal and recycling services for residents of unincorporated Orange County, the Town of Windermere and portions of several other municipalities in the County.
The Water Conservation section is the education and promotional arm of the Water Division. It uses a tri-faceted approach—incentives, education and regulation—as tools to promote water conservation as a way of life. The division’s education programs reach over 3,000 of Orange County’s elementary, middle and high school students a year and hundreds of adults, and the incentives programs have provided thousands of Orange County Utilities customers with water-saving devices and assistance. We are presently seeking an intern to assist us with our plans to increase our customer outreach efforts. An opportunity is available for a Web Designer.
General Qualifications
Students should have a strong academic record (3.0 strongly preferred) and good character. Students must be enrolled in school during the time of the internship (enrollment in summer classes is not required). Students seeking college credit are strongly encouraged to apply. International students will be required to provide documentation of proper visa paperwork prior to your arrival if accepted for the position.

Dress Code
Orange County Utilities is a professional workplace. Business casual work attire is required. Shorts, t-shirts and cut-offs are not acceptable. Dress jeans are appropriate for field attire and casual Fridays.
Salary
Salary commensurate with experience, range is $10 -$14/hr.

Internship Job Descriptions
Web Design Intern
The opportunity includes redesign and rewrite of present content, incorporation of new content, and new feature development—new feature development includes the construction of web pages for the presentation of application-derived data, and web page construction for the display of this data. The selected candidate will be required to translate the functional requirements of the site into technical specifications based on the verbal direction of the team leaders.
This position offers the opportunity for creativity and professional development and requires a candidate that is highly self-motivated, self-directed, creative, spontaneous and attentive to detail.
Additionally, due to our strong team and collaborative development focus, the intern will be able to pursue other interests in a wide area.
Required Skills
- Intermediate knowledge of web design function and operation.
- Knowledge of graphics and web design software— Adobe products such as Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Flash.
- Experience with a variety of web sites and familiarity with current trends and online multimedia presentations.
Desired Skills
- Web site projects already completed (web portfolio available for review).
- Artistically inclined—creativity and visioning talents highly desired.
