It's time for a change

So, we’ve been using the free version of wordpress for a few months now and from a designer’s perspective it’s disappointing using a template. But we do have limitations when it comes to funding and manpower, so free it is. Fiddling around with wordpress earlier I decided to thumb through the other template options and found a new one that looks like it enables a bit more customization by allowing the header image to be changed out. I also think this change is a bit more structured and easier to use. So hopefully I haven’t caught any of you off guard with this change – I was just so tired of seeing the green and orange minimalist layout, so much so that I wanted to toss it out with last week’s trash. And they say change is good, right?

So we’ve got the ability to design the header. If you are a Valencia graphics student and you have a design that you’d like us to grace the header of our blog send it to me at akern@valenciacc.edu. Go design it and we might just use it (but no guarantees).

So what-cha think of the change?

    Its not bad colors a bit better... I do miss the other one a bit. This one you can say is a better since u can add a banner on the top and seems to give u more freedom with customization.

    does anyone else see the smiley face on the top right? am i going insane? too much time in front of the computer? AHHH!! I liked the old layout, but I like the fact that in this one you can change the banner and stuff.

    I actually liked the previous style, even though it was a template. I like the idea that now our blog can become even more personal to VCC students, and the structure is better now with the horizontal bands. My only complaint is the bright blue links, it hurts the eyes a little when posting this late @ night, in the dark.

    Umm. Ya - I saw the smiley last night too. Don't worry it's not fabricating on screen from your long 3am stints behind the computer. From what I've read it's wordpress monitoring/tracking our blog. I have seen it a time or two on the old layout. And again, sorry if you guys enjoyed the old layout. I'd say there are over 186,000 reasons to change - and with the old layout there was no free way to alter the layout beyond rearranging the sidebar. So I welcome the new layout due to the slight ability to customize. Heck, who knows - they might just be working on more themes at wordpress.com. So until we have the time and resources to create our own theme we'll have to make due. :)

    I like it! Definitely personalizes the page more! Can the very top part the says "VCC Graphics Technology" be changed as well?

    I liked the other layout better, but I agree that since you can change more settings in this templete this one works better for us. The smiley face what caught my attention right away... I got to say thanks again for spending the time on doing all this for us Amanda. Nice banner :P
