POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Graphic Designer is responsible for designing and outputting large format, full color graphics that can be weeded, cut and applied or printed and mounted to a substrate by a sign maker. This may involve various levels of creativity and will ultimately lead to the complete design or modified design from customer drawings, files, or exact output of customer-provided design for output to vinyl.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Any combination of education, training or general experience that would provide the required skill and knowledge base sufficient for job performance. This could include:
  • Sufficient formal or informal education to have a STRONG working knowledge of both PC and MAC operating systems and the Adobe Suite of design products. Prefer Bachelor’s Degree.
  • At least 2 years experience as a graphic designer in a professional setting, sign-related industry or in desktop publishing. Strong sense of design through color usage, graphical treatments, and choice of typography in a well-balanced interface.
  • Must demonstrate strong attention to detail and communication skills to ensure timeliness and quality of work.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Organize and plan work for maximum efficiency in the use of time and materials. Participate in the daily work-start meeting in which the day’s work is planned.
  2. Read and correctly interpret Work Orders; design signs according to written instructions.
  3. Inspect jobs for accuracy before sending them to the customer, plotter or printer for output.
  4. Logo maintenance and sourcing: scanning, editing, using the logo bank, etc.; convert graphic files provided by the customer.
  5. Image sourcing: locate photos on disks, understand copyright laws and release/usage requirements, have knowledge of resources for purchased stock images, with service bureaus to create output beyond the store’s capability, and understand resolution options and optimal enlargement specifications from image vendors and image originals.
  6. Provide proofs as necessary for customer and prospect approval. Follow up on proof approval to ensure production process can proceed in a timely manner
  7. Perform daily and weekly scheduled computer backups; archive files as necessary.
  8. Physically maintain all equipment, including computers, plotters, roll media and printers.
  9. Maintain accurate electronic and paper records of File Storage and Disks (logs, saving by invoice number, dating), as specified in Operations Manual.
  10. Minimize waste by using ink, media, and vinyl efficiently; notify manager or owner when inventory$ is low.
  11. Assist in production when time allows. Assist CSR at the front counter as needed.
  12. Keep the computer room neat, clean and organized.

Knowledge: The design process (i.e., layout, correct use of color & typestyles); correct English language usage including spelling, grammar and punctuation; ability to proofread; basic math, read and interpret a ruler, use a calculator.

Skills: Communicating including listening, verbalizing thoughts, being considerate of others feelings and interpreting/clarifying issues in person, in writing, and on the phone; consulting; offering advice and having reasons to support/explain the benefits; time management; multi-tasking projects; maintaining organization; reading people and understanding their needs.

Desirable Qualifications/Traits: Self-motivated; high level of self confidence; fast learner; honest; high level of integrity; quality conscious; calm; professional, and diplomatic; presents self well; neatly dressed, well-mannered and polite.

    having worked for a company like this, i can say that its a really good experience and really makes you think creatively and quickly at the same time. its a fun job to have and i definitely learned a lot the time i was there. good luck to all :)

    Hi, Im going to be moving to back to Orlando in January. I was born and raised there but moved away for a family emergancy. Before in Orlando I worked for Prestige Graphics as a designer/installer, we worked off smart designer. I lettered hundreds of trucks, vans, banners, store fronts. I would really love to get back in to this field . If there are any Positions available at your cenral florida locations please keep me in mind. I know i would be a great investment to the company.
