Valencia's new web sites

If you aren’t on Valencia’s web site often you might have overlooked the fact that they have underwent a redesign of Valencia’s web site, atlas, and they now have a new interactive flash web site dubbed “Education is in”. After reviewing the web sites I must say that the new launch of these web sites certainly gives a fresh new look to the previous online presence.

So go check out the new sites and let us know what you think!

The front page does look fresher. Navigation is relatively the same, but it works well. It's nice that they're trying to accomodate smaller browsers, but the site feels really tiny with my 1280 width browser. Everything is relatively the same except for some color changes. ... but look at this: http://educationisin.com -- this is quite interesting for Valencia! It's a little bit buggy, but I think the graphics and interface are impressive.

The new colours are just ugly. The main site is smaller and more compact, which is nice, but the colours aren't inspiring at all. And I personally don't like the pixel font used for the tabs. Atlas is still just as crummy as ever but at least I don't have to disable my pop up blocker to sign in anymore so that's an improvement. The education is in site is pretty but slow and very buggy. An alternative HTML version would be nice.

The new tv spots are pretty cool. I actually met the fashion designer that created all the garments. I met her @ an event that was being hosted by siegeINK.

Web design is certainly a subjective topic - I fully expect to hear mixed responses. Regardless of your opinions, just be sure to remain tactful in offering your honest input. It's important to hear the input of the target audience...and that's you guys - the students!

Atlas and the main site still look bad. But as far as the educationisin site... its pretty well designed , navigation was a little confusing. Other than that I think its a big jump from whatever advertising they had before. :) Good job! BTW The tv commercials are on there website.... the german guy is hillarious. One thing I noticed was the writing by the Valencia logo... What does it sayyy??? hey .... lay .... Can someone help me :). Looks cool but what is it for?

I do not like any of them. Atlas is still looking poor. Valencia's main page is not even working. And the new campaign about "Education is in" is too confusing. That site is alright but navigation is mystery meat.

The colors for the new Valencia site are an extremely brave choice for an educational institution, I applaud them heavily on that. Someone is paying very close attention to color trending. It is interesting to see the color tones in the photos on the main page have an undercurrent of the same browns and greens used in navigation, a beautifully subtle way of tying everything together. I'm hoping they bring more photos in, it would be great if there were dozens or even hundreds. I am not a fan of the icons in the "Events & Announcements", I can see they are there to create an emphasis, yet they create more visual clutter than is necessary. Considering by virtue of copy, they will naturally be longer than "News & Information", this will create enough of an emphasis to set the two apart. The image of "Valencia Poll" is needs to be kerned and uses a seemingly entirely new typeface than found anywhere else on the home page. (http://www.valenciacc.edu/reskin/1/images/vpoll.jpg) The bottom site-map is very compressed. I can appreciate the need not to be the full width of the site, but this could easily spread out, suck up at least one line (preferably more), and still be pleasantly spaced. Or take advantage of the 3 column grid established above to have a list of links (column 1-Left), and information (2-3 Right). I feel uncomfortable with the huge amount of textures, I think they could be streamlined into a tighter selection. - Top banner is flat green - Top navigation has a multiple horizontal line graphic (http://valenciacc.edu/images/globalnav3/bars.gif) - Top navigation has vertical lines to distinguish buttons from each other (this is pleasantly repeated on the left side nav) - "Video" (besides being an entirely new typeface) is a curved line. (Btw -- you can't close the "video" once you click it open in Firefox, Mac) - "Get Fitted for Fall Register Now" uses a jagged tooth-like border, and has a curved linework background picking up the navigation textures. This isn't problamatic, except the top most banner has neither texture. My overall impression is extremely positive. I think it this page goes a long way in positioning Valencia as an extremely contemporary school. The selection of photography utilizes students in non-academic settings, which creates a sense of interest and tells more of the story of the lifestyle, and shows off a bit of grounds. I think this is the biggest opportunity to push the site even further, a broader selection of photography with (possibly) a slide-show like quality (loads static, navigation appearing on roll over or tucked in a menu).

Does the atlas logo really have to be the size of the entire page? I mean, I've hear "make the logo bigger," but really? And were the content boxes stitched onto my screen? I don't remember authorizing that. They could have at least finished hemming the bottom box =)

I'm really liking the EducationIsIn website, very interactive, I'm just wondering who did it, and who created the commercials, because theyre hilarious :D lol. I think the new style for the other Valencia websites are definitely better and more interesting than the old layout, but the colors are ugly. Reminds me of the Nickelodeon slime.

    reina.

i saw one of the commercials the other night and i thought it was weird but in a good way i guess. i just checked around the education is in website and i agree that the navigation is confusing and it still needs some work [or maybe some getting used to it from our part] but i also agree with some when they say that it is great that valencia is taking some different routes lately. i also really like the outfits made for the different careers. we should make our own for the heck of it =P

Hello, my name is Christian and I am the Assistant VP of Marketing for Valencia, Amanda was kind enough to forward this site on so I could look at your comments. Thank you all for the fantastic insight, it is always helpful to hear your thoughts and concerns. I just wanted to clarify a few things and encourage the feedback to continue. Knight was the agency that assisted us in putting the new campaign together; in fact, two of the designers are Valencia Alumni. Both Jeff Grice and Vince Pileggi graduated from Valencia. Knight is a great partner, but Valencia's own Marketing and Media Relations creative team played a huge role in the development and execution of the items for web, television, radio and print. I have forwarded this site onto our chief designer to ensure that your comments and concerns are addressed. Again, thank you again and feel free to drop me a line directly.

a lot of the 'younger' students in my entry-level graphics course find the new campaign to be wildly fun and creative. considering they're the target audience i'd have to say this is a huge success! on a personal note, i appreciate that the campaign takes metaphorical and creative risks. considering the lack of appreciation these days for true creativity and the courage it takes to be so, i find this very 'balsy', insightful and well executed... which are the perfect ingredients for ADDYs. ;-)
