The Ultimate Font Resources

After warning you of 10 tragic typefaces and then inspiring you to learn to love typography, it’s about time I share some of the best font resources on the web. I’d imagine once you’re armed with these resources that you can defend your designs against some of those tragic typefaces we mentioned a few weeks back and have other designers screaming to see more of your remarkable use of typography.

You might also be interested in some other useful font resources on the web. Fontifier lets you use your own handwriting for the text you write on your computer. It allows you to turn a scanned sample of your handwriting into a handwriting font that you can use as a font. Type Navigator is an interesting visual method available for selecting fonts. And then there are also font identification tools, such as Identifont and What-the-font available online if you are trying to locate a font that you might not be certain of.

So do you have any other font resources you’d like to share?

Hoefler & Frere-Jones (www.typography.com)-In my opinion, one of the best. Too many sexy typefaces to list. Storm Type Foundry (www.stormtype.com)-I've recomended them in past posts. Always amazing. Emigre (www.emigre.com) -An amazing resource and magazine for years- it has, sadly, been discontinued; however, their fonts and back issues are still avialable. Linotype (www.linotype.com) - Home of Trade Gothic (on of my fav's).If you're tired of Extensis, Fontbook, or any other tragically inferior font management software, check out their FontExplorer. Its free and its amazing.
