Graphics Informational Meeting – April 12th, 2007

You won’t want to miss the Graphics Informational Meeting on April 12th, 2007 at 6pm in the Atrium (near the gallery) of building three of east campus.

Who should attend this meeting?

  • Current degree seeking Graphics Technology students
  • Any college or high school student who is considering majoring in Graphics Technology
  • Anyone who is considering one of the four technical certificate available in Graphics Technology
  • Anyone who isn’t sure what’s involved to earn a degree or technical certificate and wants to learn more about Valencia’s Graphics Technology Program

What will be covered at the meeting?

  • What it takes to be a graphic, web, or interactive designer and what the industry expects from students majoring in graphics.
  • Technical certificate and degree requirements
  • Course enrollment options will be covered where students can learn more about the differences between traditional, hybrid, and online courses currently offered.
  • Students will learn about curriculum changes that will become effective in the fall 2007 semester, as well as learn more about some new course offerings that will begin in the summer and fall.
  • Faculty will provide advice as to the suggested order to take courses
  • Students will have access to the schedule for the summer 2007 semester and the tentative schedule for the fall 2007 and spring 2008 semesters.
  • Example student projects will be available to review during the meeting which will give students a better understanding of the quality of work completed in the program and what can be expected in some of our courses.
  • Our career advisor, Erica Reynoso, will be present to address career and degree planning
  • Students will be able to ask questions during and after the meeting
  • After the meeting students who are not familiar with Valencia’s graphics lab may follow along on an optional tour of our East Campus lab to learn more about the technology that is available to all Valencia Graphics Students

I’ve already done my research about the program, do I really need to attend?
Although it’s not mandatory that current or future graphics students attend our meeting, it is highly recommended. Current and future students will be given an overview and advice from faculty as to what is needed to complete the Graphics Technology degree at Valencia. For those current students who might be familiar with our degrees, it would still be wise to attend to learn more about upcoming curriculum changes that might affect you depending upon where you are currently in your degree. It might also help to attend because students will be provided with tentative future schedules that will help with degree planning for the 2007-2008 school year.

Can students from other schools attend?
Absolutely, anyone who is interested in learning more about our program is welcome to attend. If you’re at another institution, we won’t hold it against you, in fact we encourage you to attend. If you’re in high school and you have or haven’t made up your mind on where you want to attend college or whether or not a degree in graphics is for you, we encourage you to check us out and discover for yourself whether or not our program is a good fit for your future goals.

Can I bring a friend or family member?
We are open to you bringing you Mom, Dad, sister, brother, spouse, or whomever you feel who might be involved in making the decision with you of where to go to school and what to major in. Although ultimately it is an individual decision of yours to make, we do encourage you discussing your goals with your family or friends. Therefore, we welcome them to attend to also learn more about the program.

What if I can’t make it at exactly 6pm, can I still attend?
We realize many of you are working and might be getting out of class near that time. If that is the case, we still encourage you to attend, even if you’re late. The meeting will last approximately 1-1 1/2 hours.

What if I can’t make it to the meeting but I’m interested in majoring in graphics at Valencia and want to talk with someone to learn more?
It’s tough for our program director, Barbara Peterson, and our career advisor, Erica Reynoso, to meet individually with a large number of students so we do encourage you try to attend the informational meeting. However, if for some reason you are unable to attend and would like to learn more about our program you are first encouraged to check out our program web site, where we have an abundant amount of information available. If you still have questions, from there you may contact Barbara Peterson at bpeterson@valenciacc.edu or Erica Reynoso at ereynoso@valenciacc.edu. Both have office hours available to meet with students if you happen to have further questions you feel need addressed in person.

I seem to remember hearing that the Cameron Moll speech was podcasted. Is there any chance of podcasting this informational meeting for those who will be in class and/or unable to attend?

We had intentions to podcast the Cameron Moll event but we've yet to receive the video from those that assisted in shooting the event. Unfortunately with the amount of time it takes to plan, coordinate, shoot, edit, and then prepare to podcast we don't have the resources available just yet to provide that. We might be able to make a presentation or pdf available so if you can't attend check back.
