GRAPHIC ARTS COORDINATOR position for Orange County Public Schools

Orange County Public Schools is the 11th largest school district in the nation and the fourth largest in the state. With more than 23,000 employees, it is the second largest employer in Central Florida. The OCPS Community Relations Department is seeking a talented graphic artist. Community Relations is responsible for all internal and external communications as well as brand management.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Meets with customers who request districtwide projects; interprets materials to include in the final product as per customer request; designs ideas for approval through the use of computers or traditional art methods; prepares cost estimates for a project before work begins in the form of a job quote.
  • Produces informative brochures for the district and newsletters for district employees; sends brochures and newsletters to printer for printing and press.
  • Produces directional signs, event signs, and displays, for districtwide events; prints or assembles as required.
  • Creates designs and completes work necessary for display or reproduction to include publication covers, brochures, pamphlets, television graphics, logos, charts, graphs, maps, letterheads and certificates.
  • Uses computer and/or traditional methods to arrive at one or several ideas for approval; uses a variety of graphic art software (QuarkXPress, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, Microsoft Word and PowerPoint) tofacilitate project completion.
  • Consults on large projects; coordinates graphics and photography for large projects; coordinates tasks to bring a job to completion.
  • Meets with supervisor to discuss new software trends and requests for more supplies and equipment.
  • Monitors copyright issues.
  • Process work orders for all projects; confirms all budget information and outside invoices are included for billing; sends completed tickets to bookkeeper for processing.
  • Answers the telephone; provides information and assistance on new projects or updates on current jobs.
  • Operates a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools associated with department activities, which may include a color copier or color printers.
  • Operates a computer to enter, retrieve, review, or modify data; utilizes desktop publishing, graphic art, and software programs.
  • Responsible for keeping up to date on current technology, as job appropriate, being used by OCPS. With the support of the district, attends training to ensure skill level in various technologies is at the level required to perform in current position.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate information they maintain as part of their job responsibilities.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by college-level course work or vocational training in graphic design; supplemented by minimum five (5) years’ previous experience and/or training that includes advertising or graphic art; or any equivalent combination of related education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential job functions.

SALARY RANGE: $37,124.64 – $38,982.96
