Flatstock poster competition

Each year over 50,000 music executives, artists, trend setters and fans converge from around the world during SXSW making it an iconic event in the music industry. As part of the festival the American Poster Institute’s “Flatstock Poster Show Series” will bring together the world’s best poster artists to showcase their incredible work at SXSW.

Since it started with rock and roll posters in the sixties, this art form has been instrumental in documenting the evolution of the musical landscape and an integral part of pop culture. The show at SXSW has become a must-see event for any poster collector providing opportunities to meet the artists and find limited edition, silk screen, litho, or digital posters, and merchandise.

This year, Flatstock and Toyota will be providing an opportunity for students to be part of this collaboration by creating an online gallery as well as setting aside a special showcase on-site at SXSW to display the art of talented student poster artists. Entries will be judged by a panel of American Poster Institute directors and notable current rock poster artists on their creativity, originality and how they reflect the spirit of SXSW.

Anyone over the age of 18 that is enrolled in a college art program is eligible.

If you are interested in creating a poster design for FLATSTOCK 12 – Austin, TX, the design must include:

• “American Poster Institute and SXSW present Flatstock 12”
• “Austin, TX”
• The Dates – “March 15-17th 2007”
• The Times, if room permits – “1pm-6pm Thurs, 11am-6pm Fri & Sat”
• Posters can be no bigger than 20” x 26” with a 1/2 inch border
• The artwork can be created in any medium, limited to three colors, and ready to screen print.
• Artwork should be uploaded as a 72dpi jpg or eps file to yaris-sxsw.com/flatstockcontest.

All entries will appear on yaris-sxsw.com. Up to fifteen (15) winning designers will be notified and asked to deliver final silk-screened artwork for display at the SXSW Flatstock 12 exhibit which runs March 15-17 2007 at the Austin Convention Center in Austin, TX. One Grand Prize winner will be selected to win a trip to the festival for his/herself and a friend, to include:

• Airfare for two (2)
• One hotel room for up to two (2) people
• Two (2) SXSW wristbands!
