Excellent Job Opportunity at OfficeMax

That’s right, OfficeMax! In an effort to provide you all (young graphic designers) with the quality and help that Kinkos does not generally provide, OfficeMax would like to hire people like you who know what they’re doing! Right now even, they have several current Valencia students and graduates working there who are kept pretty busy not just printing, but working in their creative department designing great work for thier clients and their portfolios. Please read their request:

We need applications for both full time and part time positions. They pay based on experience, but we love people who are entry level with a desire to learn. The immediate openings are in Altamonte Springs, but other locations are always looking as well. A full portfolio is not required, but a short resume and a few examples of projects completed are.

Anyone who is interested can fill out an application at www.officemax.com >> about us/jobs >> careers >> retail store associate careers/ management careers >> retail store associate careers >> search print center, Florida, then Altamonte springs. They are listed as ‘desktop publisher’ both full time and part time. After filling out the application, call the store at 407.788.6151 and speak with Ben (Impress Manager) or Vicki (Impress Assistant Manager).

We would love to accept applications from those in the beginning of the Graphics Program as well for our Impress Department staff. If there is anyone, even in Digital Media and Design, without any type of portfolio and they are interested in working at a print shop to gain experience, we can start them out doing customer service and start training them in production. It’s a great way for them to start adding to their resume, and we will slowly pull them over to creative as they learn the programs. (They don’t just print PDFs at OfficeMax, they actually know the software!)

So far Valencia has provided us with the best employees in both work ethic and design abilities, keep up the good work.

(To Katie: Thank you for keeping our students in mind for these opportunities! -Kristy)

well, let me say that this is a good opportunity for a student that has not developed a portfolio. This particular job(i know from personal experience) is a half designer job. You may get lucky and work at a hub store(like altamonte) where there are many people working and can teach you things. But you will likely work for little money and have to do design and do retail work or even clean bathrooms. They have a great variety of products they offer and there is alot of hands on learning (like binding and finishing). Unless things have drastically changed since the last time I was there, they will expect you to sell and also most of the design work is template based. Not alot of room for creativity.I just wanted you all to know that its a good opportunity, but be aware that it's still a retail chain and they will expect you to up sell, ring up on a register and participate in other retail store functions. :)
