Come see Pash talk Inspirability & the 2007 student show

pash-1.jpgOn April 20th, you have an opportunity to get inspired by Pash, the Author of Inspirability. The event will be held from 6pm – 7pm in the Performing Arts Center on Valencia’s East Campus. Pash (whose full name is Matt Pashkow) is a designer and design educator in Los Angeles, California. For 12 years he served as Creative Director and Principal of Digital Soup, an award-winning multi-disciplinary graphic design firm in Culver City. In January of 2005 Pash shocked those who knew him by stepping away from Digital Soup at its peak to join forces with a longtime friend and client, brand innovator and creative visionary Brad Beckerman. Now Pash is Creative Director at CINQ Group, a Los Angeles-based brand development agency specializing in premier lifestyle marketing and image development. Pash also oversees all graphic design services for TRUNK Ltd, a classic apparel lifestyle brand launched under the CINQ umbrella in 2003.

From 2002 to 2004 Pash served as President of the Los Angeles chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Arts, the fourth largest of its 47 chapters nationwide. During his tenure, the chapter grew to over 1000 members. Pash frequently judges design competitions, most recently the Pele Awards in Hawaii and the XIV Premio Quórum Awards in Mexico City. He teaches three graphic design classes at UCLA Extension’s acclaimed Visual Arts program and frequently guest lectures at other art schools. Pash has served on the Advisory Board for HOW Magazine’s annual Design Conference, where he is a frequent speaker. His first book, Inspirability, a collection of in-depth conversations about inspiration with 40 of the world’s top graphic designers, was published in June 2005 and can be found in bookstores everywhere. Pash lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Jessica and his daughter, Mirabelle.

The 2007 Student Show

After seeing Pash speak, why not stay and get more inspired by attending the 2007 Graphics & Fine Art Juried Student Show? That’s right, the student show this year will be held on the SAME night as Pash talks about Inspirability. Refreshments will be available in the atrium of building 3 on East Campus at 7pm and the show will begin at 7:30 in the Performing Arts Center.

We’re still working on adding accepted work into flickr, but if you’re interested in taking a peek at some of the graphics student projects that have made it into this year’s show you are encouraged to check out the 2007 student show set in flickr.

BOTH EVENTS ARE FREE TO ATTEND.

I wish I could go to this but when I get out of work, it's already too late to get to school. :(

I read his book, it's so interesting to get a sence of the designers and their work environment even if you don't know much more about them. I think it would be a good idea to try the questionary around our department. Oh, by the way, I love the fuzzy cover! Hope to see you all there!

Pash will be shipping over a few boxes of his book, so save your dollars so that you can buy one and have him sign it when he's here! Kurt, since you can't attend, if you want to buy his book and have it signed give your book to Amanda or me and we'll make sure it's signed for you at the event.
