Blog theming + design us a new header!

Hopefully you all aren’t too surprised by the blog theming I’ve done today. Oh, it’s just been changed a time or two – and hopefully it hasn’t shocked any of you to see our blog in the midst of theme changes. I’ve had a few reasons to seek out a new theme that supports our blog:

  • The old theme was very limiting in the number of static pages I could add, without the navigation starting to look corny. The new theme I’ve switched to gives us more room to add a few new pages, if needed. One of which will be “resources” which I hope to add today which will features links to the most popular resources we’ve had a hand in creating: blog posts, pdf’s of articles, or other resources that might help our students, faculty as well as other creatives in the industry.
  • I must give credit where it is due, and unfortunately that was nearly impossible with the old theme. So for those of you who have gotten use to me being the blogging guru on our graphics blog, I must admit that this month Kristy has been far more active than I have. Also we hope to get other faculty, students and perhaps alumni on board in the near future to contribute to this constantly growing design community we have going here. If you’re interested in contributing email akern@valenciacc.edu. Be sure to let us know your ideas for contributions to our blog.

So hopefully you all enjoy the new theme. The new theme should help as our blog continues to grow. If you’re not fond of the new them, just remember, it’s free – compliments of wordpress.com. But you CAN do your part and contribute to the custom header we’re hoping to change out soon. If you’re interested email me your jpg submission that has been optimized (saved for the web). The size must be 736 px wide by 229 px high. It must have the words “Valencia Graphic Blog” incorporated. And don’t forget it has to look cool and creative! Email submissions to akern@valenciacc.edu.

We’d love to know what you think of the new blog change…oh, and what are you waiting for? We REALLY need a new header!

NOTE: Submission of a header design does not guarantee it’s use on Valencia’s graphics blog.

I like it!! It seems much more calming and pleasant if that makes sense. BTW how bad is it that I never noticed the tiny smily face! That's great!! :-)

Efrain- I've got to tell you that smiley has bugged me for a good long time. When I first noticed it, I thought I had a dead pixel in my monitor. ;o)

ps. If you get so many good ones you can't decide you could always do a random header thing http://www.lennartgroetzbach.de/blog/?p=1040

Ahh, I love the new design. A beautiful separation out into two cleanly defined columns and splended heirarchy. Kudos on high especially for the gray text, much easier to read on screen!
