Allan Hancock College seeks fulltime graphics instructor
Allan Hancock College is seeking qualified candidates for their full-time tenure-track faculty position. The position is a full-time, 175 (10-month annual contract) tenure-track faculty position in graphics. The anticipated start date is January, 2010. The instructor provides instruction in beginning, intermediate, and advanced graphics; participates in professional development and fulfills professional responsibilities; provides outreach and articulation with district high schools and with four-year colleges and universities; evaluates and counsels students; plans and organizes instructional materials toward course objectives; participates in program review and curriculum development. The assignment may include teaching at off-campus centers and/or evening and weekend classes
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A master’s degree in graphics or a bachelors degree in graphics with six years experience in the field
- Clear evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
DESIRABLE ATTRIBUTES
- Demonstrated ability to teach the full range of 2D and 3D graphics courses
- Demonstrated ability to supervise a graphics computer lab as well as the associated printers and networking
- Demonstrated mastery of current graphics technology including 3D product design
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate industrial internships
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple budgets and inventory supplies
EQUIVALENCY PROCESS
It is the desire of the district to select outstanding faculty members from the largest possible pool. Allan Hancock College recognizes the fact that candidates may have attained expertise in a discipline through a variety of means. Certain combinations of education, experience, and other accomplishments in the field may be judged by the district as equal to the stated qualifications for this position. Candidates who feel they possess such equivalent qualifications are encouraged to complete the equivalency form and provide appropriate documents of their qualifications.

SCREENING AND INTERVIEW PROCESS
A committee will review applications. Meeting the stated qualifications does not assure a candidate an interview. Therefore, it is important that the application be thorough and detailed. Applicants will be assessed on the breadth and depth of education, training, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities. A limited number of applicants will be invited for an interview at the college at their own expense. All interviewed candidates will be asked to present a short teaching demonstration.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
Hiring salary range for a 175 work day contract is $48,736 to $69,854 depending upon education and experience. A doctoral stipend of $2,000 is paid to those who qualify.
