the beautiful unseen: railroads

Allow me to preface this post by saying, “Don’t do this, I don’t want to be blamed for you getting hit by a train.” I had a look out and a train schedule.

So how do you see time? Is it linear, is it circular? Is it blue, green? What does time taste like? Does it even have a physical dimension?

I usually see time as a train. Hugely massive, metal, force.

Unstoppable.

“Time” cannot be visually defined without the use of a metaphor. How would you begin? You are the designer for Hugely Massive Design Co., with the Universe as your only client. You get the job order, “define time.” How? How are you, the visual communicator, going to express a purely abstract idea (that may or may not exist) going to express it?

For this installation of the beautiful unseen, let’s explore time.

there are often times - when i develop my best ideas - where time seems to move slowly for me. kind of like the slow-motion replay of a hard hit in NFL football. sounds weird, i know, however i know that in order to get to that point i need to be in a state of 'osmosis' and introspection. think deeeeeep, young grasshopper. i recommend a couple of great reads on how time affects goals, thinking and the creative process: "Hare Brain, Tortoise Mind: How Intelligence Increases When You Think Less" and "Einstein's Dreams".

Hey thanks :-D I've come to the conclusion that "not being a photographer" simply means "I won't sell photos professionally." There is no realm sacred in terms of inspiration, everything is open to research and experiment in.

ahh... time, time time. i think is one of those subjects when you really want to get a personal definition it just ends up being too complicated, at least for me. it is kind of like religion. i guess i am glad i am not in need to write an awesome description of how i view or percieve time. i totally get kristy when she describes it like the slow motion replays, but i'd personally wouldnt like to see those men in tight pants =P i guess i could describe it more like bubbles in a really thick liquid/substance that are going to the surface really really slow, but when you look closer to the bubbles you see that there are alot of fast movements within itself. yeah, i bet i did not make sense but i didnt expect i would =P oh, and about railroad pictures. i did a photoshoot on railroads a while back and i must say its quite an experience and should only be done by professionals [or us daredevils!! =D] great photos!

I think that is a beautiful way of looking at it. Will you draw it and show everyone how you see it? >>oh, and about railroad pictures. --- reina Thanks! Creativity doesn't exist without carefully measured risk. ;)
