Go Hybrid with Interactive Design 1 this summer
To add to our new online course offerings, we also have one new Hybrid course to offer. In attempt to offer more flexibility with our course offerings, we are offering (GRA 2131) Interactive Design 1 as a hybrid course. A hybrid differs from an online course in the sense that it blends online and face-to-face delivery of a course. Therefore, there’ll be less class meetings, but more interaction online and the same course material will be covered. Because a hybrid class meets less times throughout the semester does NOT mean it is less work than a traditional class. INTERACTIVE DESIGN 1
GRA 2131
Prerequisites: Minimum grades of C in (GRA 2156 or GRA 2830) Adobe Illustrator and (GRA 1206C) Fundamentals of Typography or departmental approval.
Note: This course was previously named Multimedia 1 prior to the 2006-2007 school year.
Class meetings: This class will meet on Saturdays from 9am-1245pm for six of the twelve weeks during the summer semester. The following are tentative class meeting dates for the summer semester: May 10, May 24, June 7, June 28, July 12, and July 26.
Course Overview
Students learn advanced graphic techniques for interactive projects. Vector and bit-mapped graphics software will be used to complete the projects. Students learn to plan and create presentations that could include scanned images, images created in various graphics programs, video and animation sequences, and sound.
Who should enroll in Introduction to Software for Graphic Designers?
- Any students or professionals who have experience with graphics software (Photoshop, Illustrator) and are interested in learning Flash.
- ALL degree seeking students in both the graphic design and interactive specializations in Graphic Technology.
- Any students looking to refresh their skills if they have not taken the Interactive Design 1 or Multimedia 1 course in a year or more.
What will I need to have in order to take this course?
- This course requires access to a personal computer and Adobe Flash 8, Adobe Photoshop, and Illustrator are required for creation of graphical elements.
- Additionally, students must have access to the internet and high speed broadband connection is recommended.
- Students will purchase the required textbook (Macromedia Flash 8 Missing Manual) – available in the Valencia East campus Bookstore on-line or from any other sources of your choice.
- WebCT will be used to deliver material from instructor, submit questions, discussion and submit assignments.
What will I learn in this course?
- This course is an introduction to Flash where students will learn the fundamentals needed to create animations and interactivity for Flash movies. Implementation of sound, video, and actionscript will also be covered.
- This course is project based, therefore, students will complete exercises that will be both in and out of classes, along with 4 projects. Students will learn skills needed to complete exercises and projects through written and video tutorials, handouts, and online learning modules.
